Turner Elementary School

Wilkinsburg Area School District

Core Architects Pittsburgh

Core Architects is the Architect of Record for the Additions and Renovations to Turner Elementary School for the Wilkinsburg School District. Turner Elementary is a nearly 100 year old building currently serving half of the District's Pre-K through 5 students. The building has seen virtually no improvements for decades. This project includes complete interior renovations including new flooring, ceilings, doors, and hardware, new smart boards, and code and ADA updates throughout, including a new sprinkler system. The building will also receive a completely new HVAC system, which will include air conditioning and digital controls. The eletrical service, switch gear, and emergency generator will be replaced, and new LED lighting with efficiency controls will be installed throughout. All plumbing systems will also be replaced.

The Gym/ Multipurpose Room, Kitchen, and Cafeteria will be rennovated and a new six classroom addition will be constructed to allow the District to better balance its elementary population between two schools. In addition, the Administration Area will be completely reconfigured for better safety and efficiency. All windows and exterior doors will be replaced, and new windows will be added to the Library-Media Center. Masonry will be restored and the site will be reconfigured to provide a new, safe student drop off area.
