Francis McClure Elementary Intermediate School

McKeesport Area School District

McKeesport, PA - Addition - $8.2 Million

The Francis McClure Elem/Intermediate School project involved the construction of a new two-story, 22 classroom addition and renovations to the existing Francis McClure Intermediate School.

The educational program was converted from its previous 4-6 configuration to house grades PreK-5. The 700-student building operates as “two schools within a school”. The student population is separated into a Primary School (Grades PreK-2), and an Intermediate School (Grades 3-5).

Each school has a separate entrance and administration. Classrooms are segregated by floor, with the primary students on the 2nd floor, and the elementary students on the 1st floor. New construction included a new tiered-seating LGI/Community Room and a new Entrance and Stair for the primary school.

The upper-level corridor features continuous clerestory glazing that provides natural light to corridors and borrowed light to interior classrooms.

A new ground-source (geothermal) HVAC system serves the classroom addition, and air conditioning was added to the system for the existing building.
