Jefferson Hills Recreation Center Study
Borough of Jefferson Hills
Jefferson Hills, PA– New Construction - Study - $10.5 Million
The Borough of Jefferson Hills commissioned CORE Architects to conduct a Feasibility Study to determine the viability of constructing a New Recreation Center/Community Center. During the Study, the Architect and the Borough visited similar recreations centers in neighboring communities to determine the space program for the project. Once a space program was established, research was conducted to determine the construction and annual operating costs for the facility. CORE Architects assisted the Borough, and the Borough’s Recreation Authority, in evaluating several potential sites for the project. The concept of a completely new facility was explored, and the Architects also examined the possibility of constructing the building on the site of the existing Thomas Jefferson High School (which was to be abandoned and demolished after the constructio of a the new High School is complete).
Multiple areas of supplemental funding for the project were explored by the project team. One potential funding source is a public-private partnership for constructing and operating the building, between the Borough and one of the region’s largest healthcare providers. This potentially opens the project to including program spaces not typically found in other Recreation Facilities. The project as currentlt programmed will provide space for basketball/volleyball, fitness and training, a running track, community meeting/event space. Potential outdoor amenities include athletic fields, pavilions, and a future community pool.
